DEANE - Allan Dean - allan@adean.com

I have traced my direct line back to William DEANE who married Martha BATEMAN in 1670 at Billerica, Massachusetts.  They resided in Woburn, MA.  They had children, Martha, William, Samuel, John (b. Jun 25, 1677, in Woburn, MA), and Sarah. I am descended through John DEAN, who dropped the "e" and married Mary FARMER in Woburn.  John m. Mary FARMER in 1703 and had children, William, John, Edward, Ebenezer (b. Jan. 28 1709), Thomas, Molly and Samuel.  Ebenezer m. Mary HAGGETT ROGERS (wid. of Nathaniel ROGERS) in Dec 7, 1732 in Billerica, MA. They had children: Ebenezer ( b. Oct 7, 1733) , Sarah, and unknown daughter.  Ebenezer (2) m. Patience BROOKINGS in May 26, 1763 in Georgetown, Sagadahoc, Maine. They had children: Joseph (b. Nov. 24, 1768), Sherebiah, Ebenezer (Revolutionary hero), Samuel, John, and Betty.  I have Joseph's family bible and have maintained it to date.

I know it is not much to go on. I am new to this and would welcome any help finding William Deane's parents.  I have been to Woburn Library which has a terrific collection of books and vital records.  I find that William had been in trouble with the law at least twice for being found drunk. The first time it was an 8 shilling fine.  The second was 10 shillings or sit in the stocks.  I don't know if he had the money or not.  His property taxes were about 2 shillings per year.  Savage points to the confusion of different name spellings...that is, he notes, "WILLIAM, Woburn, had Martha, b. 17 Aug. 1671; William, 5 July 1673; Samuel, 26 July 1675; John, 25 June 1677; Sarah, in 1687, by w. Martha. Great difficulty occurs in turning over rec. by frequent substitution of Dean, or Deane, or Daine, for Dane, and the reverse."  Please help me find the parents of William Deane.  Thank you.

GREEN - Jupiterfra@aol.com

Seeking information on the GREEN family. The only data I have been able to gather relates to Thomas GREEN whom I believe came from Woburn. He was born in 1865, married Catherine ? in the1890s. He lived in Arlington until he died in 1953 at the age of 87. He was predeceased by Catherine who died in 1908. I have reason to believe his father may have been a builder. Folklore has it that he built St. Agnes Church in Arlington. Any thing you may have regarding this family would be appreciated. Regards and thanks.

GREENE - Jean E Sanders - JESPANE@CS.com

William GREENE was an early settler in that part of Charlestown that later became Woburn.  I have researched this line down through my mother who is 96 and living in California.  I would like to share information with other descendants of William GREENE.  Mary Felch is the mother of the line of Greene that went into Upton/Mendon/Douglas Massachusetts.  Another line of this Woburn family was in Milford MA (see Adin Ballou's history of Milford). This is a very difficult line to follow because there are so many with the surname Green(e).  For 15 years we searched in RI because of the prominence of the surname Green(e) and the proximity of Douglas and Mendon to the RI border (Smithfield RI and Mendon MA were early sites with one jurisdiction before the state line was set).

(P.S.  Descendants of William Green(e) were living on the RI side of the border; see: Preserved Green(e) son of  Benjamin Greene written up in the RI genealogy publication by Debyns  (if you e-mail me I can give you her e-mail address).

HARKINS - Mary E. Murray - MMurray706@aol.com

HARKINS, Bernard J. - Local Woburn Taxi Operator from 27 Beacon Street, Woburn. Mr. HARKINS was of the Water Street Harkins Clan. Many years ago, Bernie told me that he and I were "cousins" but I was too young at the time to even question him about this relationship. Perhaps it was because my grandmother Catherine DOHERTY (wife of Hugh C. O'DOHERTY of Garfield Ave.) mother's mother was a HARKINS. I am trying to find out if anyone knows where in Donegal did Bernie's family originally come from?

HOLMES - Karlene - ShaKarle@aol.com

I am trying to get more information about a father and son. The father is David HOLMES and his son James. James was born in Woburn around 1800. There is no listing of his mother. I know that David took his son James to Nova Scotia to avoid the War of 1812. I also have it listed that James was born in Lexington MA. James middle initial is H. I have nothing else on David. James and David left MA around 1802. So my guess is the mother died at the birth of her son. I do appreciate anyone who might get some more information for me. I know it is alot of time and effort to help others. I just would like any volunteer has my great appreciation for helping other families.

The dead man, however, was determined to have been someone else. This Woburn man was reported to be a drunk, a womanizer, gambler and all around bum, according to my maternal grandparents. I believe he owned several properties and wonder whether the land where the HUTCHINSON Farms are was his land, or whether his grandsons bought the land.

I have recently discovered that Edward JOHNSON, the Father of Woburn, was my ancestor. When I visited Woburn I was saddened to find out that his grave was unmarked at First Burial Cemetery. He was one of the most important men of the Colony during his life time and deserves a marker on his grave.  Does anyone know how to find his burial location in First Burial Grounds.

I have records which trace my lineage in the US to Joseph KNIGHT (date of birth unknown) but first recordings 1650's in Woburn.  He is supposed to have married a Hannah ? and had 15 children from 1651 to 1684.  John KNIGHT, born Jan 1656, died Nov. 1735 married Abigail CRAGGIN 1681 had several children, one of which was Ebenezer. Ebenezer KNIGHT born 1695 married Mary JOHNSON of Lexington in 1717 (and perhaps many others) had several children, one of which was Amaziah in 1726.

Amaziah KNIGHT left Woburn for Bolton at some point before the war and although I cannot find his gravesite (he may have been a Quaker) or that of his sons and daughter in law, I know he died in 1812. I have all  kinds of information and wonderful things saved (deeds, a powder horn, store records, paintings, a clock, etc.) from his time in Bolton forward. I wonder if you have come across any information about Joseph, John, Ebenezer or any of these early Woburn Knights or know of the locations of their gravesites.  My beloved dad was the last male Knight in this long lineage and although he died in 1982, as his youngest child, I know he would like me to find out what I can. Thank you.

KNIGHT - Elliott Knight - eknight75@comcast.net

Ebenezer KNIGHT, son of John and Abigail (Craggin) KNIGHT b. Woburn August 20, 1695 m. Nov. 1717, Mary JOHNSON, dau. Matthew and Mary (REED) JOHNSON of Woburn.  On February 24, 1735/36, Joses Bucknam Jr., Constable, warned Ebenezer KNIGHT, and Mary, to take their children: Alice, Amaziah, Mary, Ebenezer, Ruth, Matthew, Sarah, and Anna, and depart. He removed to Malden about 1735, and thence to Milton before 1738. (From The Knight Family by Charles S. Tibbetts, April 10, 1941)  Could someone shed some light on what kind of transgression against the good order of the town would have required such harsh punishment? He would have been a member of the fourth generation of his family to have lived in Woburn.  I'll appreciate any help.

KNIGHT - Henry Knight - flesh@world.com

I am looking for information on a woman who I only know as Jerusha.  She was the spouse of Daniel KNIGHT, b. 20 Dec 1715 in Woburn, son of Edward KNIGHT (b. 13 Aug 1677 in Woburn, d. 1762 in Worcester) and Joanna WINN (b. 24 Jun 1663 in Woburn, d. 18 Dec 1721 in Woburn).   Jerusha was born in 1715 in Woburn, and had at least 8 children with Daniel KNIGHT between 1744 and 1760; Elizabeth, Daniel Jr., William, Edward, Sarah, Molly, Relief, and Reuben. She may have died in Worcester, but I am not certain. NUTTING LAKE - Betty Fredericks - bbffrrpp@comcast.net

John NUTTING and Sarah EGGLETON were married in Woburn, MA, in 1650.  I am very curious where they lived in the town. I believe that Woburn bordered on Billerica in the 1600's . Billerica has a lake which was known as "Nutting's Pond" .. in the very early records .. and has been known as Nutting's Lake ever since. There really wasn't a NUTTING family in Billerica, so I would like to find out if "Nutting's Pond" was name after your John Nutting.  One possibility is that John Nutting owned several properties .. one being the one he lived on .. and one close to the lake in Billerica (founded 1655).  Another curious thing is that John Nutting moved to Groton and Chelmsford, MA  (also both founded in 1655) and his descendants were centered there .. Yet .. "Nutting's pond" .. kept that name.

WRIGHT born 14 June 1812 in Woburn.  His parents were John Wright and Mary Richardson (according to his death certificate).  Edward dies in Fitchburg, Dane, Wisconsin on 21 July 1901.  His two sons list New Hampshire as their birth place in all census records, Edward list Massachusetts.

WYMAN - Mary Ned Fotis - ffotis@erols.com

Seeking Thomas WYMAN who married Abigail WISE 1747, and had Thomas WYMAN and Wyman WISE.  Somehow descended from Thomas WYMAN and Abigail DOYLE/DOYENNE/DOYNE...  Or did a female WYMAN marry a WISE and move away????

WYMAN/WINN/PIERCE - Susan O'Briant - smobriant1@yahoo.com

I am a descendant of Francis WYMAN & Judith PIERCE -Daughter of Sergt. Thomas & Elizabeth PIERCE in the 1600's.  I'm also a descendant of Edward & Joana WINN from the same time period.  Their grandchildren
(Nathanial WYMAN & Mary WINN) married and one of their daughters, Elizabeth WINN WYMAN married my ancestor, John GERRY (sometimes spelled Geary in the old records) from Stoneham (also known as Charlestown End in the old days).  My maternal grandmother was their Great, Great, Great, Great Granddaughter, Henrietta GERRY, Born in Brookfield in 1887. That is my connection to the Woburn families. I have the dates and details if any others are interested.  I would like to know more about the Winn's, Wymans and Pierces and any of their descendants in the area. Thank you.

First Baptist Church of Woburn - I am looking for as much info as possible on the First Baptist Church of Woburn, currently at 3 Winn St.  I do believe that there were 3 if not 4 churches at that site.  I have seen photos of two past churches, inside and out.  The church that is there now was built in 1926, and I am looking on information on when the bell and clock were installed.  Please direct me as to where I might find this information, and thank you for your help,
